Riveting tool, timing chain riveting tool, for Mercedes M254, M256

Special tool for disconnecting and riveting the timing chain of the engine of the M254 and M256 generations of Mercedes Benz.

Due to the design and installation position of the timing chain, special tools (such as W256589003900 and W254589003900) are required. The special tool consists of several parts, which we list separately in the scope of delivery.
Please note that our timing tool set (art. no. 121604) is also required for this.


Procedure for replacing the timing chain (loosening, tightening, riveting):
(Reference: Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class (C257) 450 EQ Boost 4Matic with engine code M 256.930)

Preparatory work:
Removing the camshaft housing
- To do this, bring the engine to the base position at TDC and NW
- Do not loosen the last 4 bolts (on the gearbox side) until the camshafts have been tightened with the special tool
Place the lever (such as W256589003900) in the timing chain tension rail and attach the holder to the cylinder head
Press the tension rail back using the knurled nut
Remove the upper slide rail and the timing chain reversing sprocket.
Attach the chain holder (such as W256589003900) and clamp the timing chain.
Remove the tow lever from the 6th cylinder.
Thoroughly cover the engine and any openings.
Disassemble the timing chain:
Disassemble the chain using the timing chain rivet tool located on the cylinder head (watch out for loose parts!).
Insert the timing chain:
Connect the new and old chains.
Loosen the chain holder.
Turn the timing chain with the timing chain rivet tool and insert the chain with a second mechanic.
Rotate the engine to timing chain rivet.
Riveting the timing chain:
Rivet the chain using the timing chain rivet tool located on the cylinder head is mounted.

Possibly required tightening torques:
Camshaft housing: 1 Nm, then 6 Nm, then 6 Nm, then +90 degrees.
Timing chain reversing pulley: 57 Nm.
Upper slide rail bearing pin: 20 Nm
